Frequently asked questions
How long can an Amazon title be?
Up to 200 characters including spaces in most categories. Shorter is usually better on phones, where only the first 70–80 characters show, so lead with brand and product type.
Which characters aren't allowed in titles?
Amazon doesn't allow ! $ ? _ { } ^ ¬ ¦ in titles (unless part of the brand name), and the same word shouldn't appear more than twice. Promotional words like “sale”, “best seller” or “free shipping” aren't allowed either.
Why are search terms counted in bytes?
Amazon limits backend search terms to under 250 bytes, not characters. English letters are 1 byte each, but Hindi and other Indian scripts use 3 bytes per letter — so Hindi keywords fill the space much faster. If you go over, Amazon may ignore all of them.
Should I repeat title words in search terms?
No — words already in the title are indexed, so repeating them wastes bytes. Use the Search Terms Optimiser to clean them.
Is my listing saved?
Only in your browser, so you can come back to it. Nothing is sent to our server.
Fix your listing before Amazon does
Listings that break Amazon's style rules can be suppressed, cut short or rank lower. This checker reads your listing the way Amazon's rules do and tells you exactly what to change.
