Upscale PDF

Make blurry, low-resolution or scanned PDFs sharper with AI. Add up to 5 PDFs at once and get pages back at twice the resolution, ready to print or share.

  • 2× resolution at the same page size — a 100 dpi scan comes back at about 200 dpi
  • Batch: up to 5 PDFs and 40 pages, downloaded one by one or as a ZIP
  • 1 credit per page — your 4 free daily credits upscale 4 pages

Up to 20 pages per PDF · 40 MB per file · about 15 seconds per page · best on scans and image-based PDFs

How to upscale a PDF

  1. Add your PDFs. Up to 5 at a time, 20 pages each and 40 pages in all.
  2. Check the summary. It shows the pages, the cost in credits and roughly how long it will take. Each PDF is checked first, and we'll tell you if one is already sharp or already has real text.
  3. Start. The first page is upscaled and shown next to the original so you can check the result before the rest is done.
  4. Download each upscaled PDF, or all of them as one ZIP.

What upscaling does — and what it doesn't

A scanned PDF is a stack of pictures of pages. If those pictures are small or blurry, the text looks soft and pixelated when you zoom in or print it. This tool runs each page through an AI image upscaler (Real-ESRGAN) that rebuilds sharper edges and cleaner detail, then puts the pages back into a PDF at the same page size with twice the resolution — a page scanned at about 100 dpi comes back at about 200 dpi.

  • It helps most with scans, faxes, photographed pages, screenshots saved as PDF, and image-based PDFs that look soft or pixelated.
  • It adds little to a PDF that is already sharp. Scans at about 200 dpi or above are good enough for printing, and the AI can only work on pages up to about 150 dpi, so we warn you and leave those out unless you choose to include them.
  • It isn't needed for PDFs with real text. A PDF created from Word or a website stores letters as sharp, scalable shapes. Upscaling would just turn it into pictures and lose the selectable text, so we'll suggest skipping it.

Please check important documents. AI upscalers reconstruct detail, and on very small or damaged print they can occasionally change a character, for example a 3 that looks like an 8. That's why you see the first page before the rest is processed. Don't rely on upscaled pages where exact digits matter, such as legal or financial documents, without proofreading them against the original. QR codes are the exception: they are found and kept exactly as in your original, so they still scan. Other barcodes (the striped kind) aren't protected yet, so check them afterwards.

Getting the best results

  • Start from the best original you have. The AI improves what's there; it can't recover text that is completely lost.
  • Flat, straight, well-lit pages give cleaner results than skewed or shadowed ones.
  • Need text you can search or select? Tick Also make the PDFs searchable. After upscaling, the AI OCR reads the sharper pages and adds an invisible text layer (+1 credit per page). It also works in Hindi and 90+ languages.
  • Smaller file? Choose Smaller file for a lower image quality setting, or run the result through Compress PDF.

How batch processing works

Pages are processed one at a time so the service stays fast for everyone — about 15 seconds each, so a 20-page PDF takes around 5 minutes. Please keep this tab open until it finishes. If a page fails, its credit is refunded and the original page is kept, so you always get a complete PDF. You can stop at any time; you only pay for the pages that were processed.

Pricing

1 credit per page (plus 1 more per page if you add searchable text). Every account with a confirmed email gets 4 free credits a day — enough to upscale 4 pages for free — and credit packs start at ₹199 ($2) for 300 credits that never expire. See pricing.

Is it private?

This is an AI tool, so your pages do leave your device: each page is sent to our server and to an AI provider (Replicate) to be upscaled. The original is not kept, and the upscaled page is held on our server for up to 15 minutes so your browser can collect it, then deleted. See our Privacy Policy. If you'd rather nothing is uploaded, the browser-only tools such as Compress PDF never send your files anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the upscaled PDF bigger than the original?

Twice the resolution means four times the pixels, so the file grows. Choose Smaller file, or compress the result afterwards with Compress PDF.

Will QR codes in my PDF still work?

Yes. AI upscalers can wreck a QR code, because they treat its pattern like texture and smear it, so Upscale PDF finds the QR codes on each page and puts the original, perfectly sharp code back on top of the upscaled page. You'll see how many were kept in the results. Other barcodes, the striped kind, aren't protected yet: check them after upscaling, or leave out pages where they matter.

Can I upscale 3× or 4×?

Right now the tool doubles the resolution (2×), which is the sweet spot for documents: sharp enough to print, without creating enormous files. A 4× upscale of a full page would produce a file of around 30 megapixels per page.

Is the text in the upscaled PDF selectable?

No — the pages are pictures, just like the scan you started with. Tick Also make the PDFs searchable to add a text layer, or run the result through OCR PDF.

What happens if my credits run out part-way?

The tool stops. The pages already upscaled are kept in the PDF, the rest stay as they were, and you can download it.

Why was my PDF left out of the batch?

PDFs that are password-protected (unlock them first with Unlock PDF), longer than 20 pages (cut them up with Split PDF), already high-resolution or already full of real text are flagged. You can still include the last two by ticking Upscale anyway.
