India GST Calculator

Add or remove GST

Add GST on top of an amount, or work out the base price and GST already included in a total — following India's CGST/SGST/IGST structure.

Total (incl. GST)
₹0
Base amount₹0
Total GST₹0
CGST₹0
SGST₹0
Standard slabs are 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% — some items (e.g. gold at 3%, rough diamonds at 0.25%) use special rates entered via the custom field. Some luxury/sin goods also carry a compensation cess on top of GST, which this calculator does not include. Always confirm the applicable rate and any cess for your specific goods/services with current government notifications.

How the India GST calculator works

Adds GST on top of a base amount, or — in "remove" mode — treats your entered amount as a GST-inclusive total and backs out the base price and GST portion. The transaction type toggle then splits that GST figure the way an Indian invoice would: into equal CGST and SGST halves for a sale within the same state, or as a single IGST line for a sale between states.

All calculations run entirely in your browser — there's no upload, no account, and no server involved at any point. Results update live as you type.

Worked example

A freelancer in Maharashtra bills a Maharashtra-based client ₹50,000 for a project at 18% GST. In "add GST" mode with intra-state selected, this calculator shows ₹4,500 CGST + ₹4,500 SGST, for an invoice total of ₹59,000. Bill a client in Karnataka instead, and switching to inter-state shows the same ₹9,000 tax as a single IGST line — the total owed doesn't change, only how it's labelled and reported.

Billing a client in the UK instead? Our UK VAT calculator handles the same add/remove logic for VAT.

Frequently asked questions

For intra-state transactions, GST splits evenly into CGST and SGST. This calculator shows the total GST amount and divides it equally between the two, alongside the base price excluding GST.

A GST-exclusive price has tax added on top; a GST-inclusive price already has tax baked in. This calculator handles both directions — add GST to a base amount, or extract the base amount and GST from a total.

IGST applies to inter-state transactions (between two different states) and is collected as a single tax instead of being split into CGST and SGST, which only apply within the same state.

Not necessarily. If you're GST-registered, you can typically claim input tax credit on GST you've already paid for business purchases (software, equipment, and similar), and net that off against the GST you collect. See the GST guide for a worked example of how this lowers your actual liability.
