Frequently asked questions

How does PNG compression work?

PNG is lossless, so we reduce the number of colours to a carefully chosen palette (up to 256) — for screenshots, logos and graphics the difference is usually invisible, but the file is far smaller. Transparent areas stay transparent.

Are my images uploaded?

Not with the free compressor — everything happens in your browser, so your images never leave your device. Pro compression is the exception: images are uploaded to our server, compressed, and deleted as soon as you download them.

How many images can I compress at once?

Up to 20 at a time for free, downloaded together as a ZIP. Pro compresses up to 100 at once and also accepts iPhone HEIC photos, AVIF output and larger files.

Can I compress a large photo to a size in MB?

Yes — switch the size box to MB (or tap 2, 5, 10 or 20 MB). For example, a 50 MB camera photo can be brought down to 20 MB. Free compression handles images up to 40 MB each in your browser; Pro handles bigger files on our server.

Which formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF in your browser; Pro adds HEIC and TIFF. You can keep each image's format or convert them all to JPG, PNG or WebP (and AVIF with Pro).

Is my photo's location data removed?

Yes. Compressing removes hidden metadata such as the GPS location phone cameras store — it makes files smaller and keeps your location private.

Will a file ever get bigger?

No — if an image is already as small as it can be at your settings, we keep the original instead and mark it “Already optimized”.
