Frequently asked questions

What is structured data?

Structured data (also called schema markup) is a small block of code, usually JSON-LD, that tells search engines exactly what a page is about — a product with its price and stock, a business with its address and hours, an article with its author and date. Google uses it to show rich results like prices, star ratings and breadcrumbs under your link.

What's the difference between an error and a tip?

Errors are missing or wrong fields that Google requires — with an error, that item can't appear as a rich result. Tips are recommended fields: the markup still works without them, but adding them makes a rich result more likely and more complete.

Is passing here a guarantee of rich results?

No checker can promise that. Correct markup makes a page eligible; Google then decides whether to show a rich result based on the page's quality and the search. The markup must also describe content that's actually visible on the page. Confirm important pages with Google's Rich Results Test.

Which schema types does it check?

Product (including Shopify's AggregateOffer), Offer, FAQPage, Article, BlogPosting and NewsArticle, BreadcrumbList, Organization, LocalBusiness and its subtypes like Restaurant and Store, Event, Recipe, VideoObject, WebSite, SoftwareApplication and Review. Other schema.org types are listed but don't have rich results to check.

Do I need an account? Is my code stored?

No account is needed and it's free. When you check a web address, our server downloads that public page once and passes its HTML to your browser, where everything is checked. Pasted code never leaves your browser. Nothing is stored.

Where do I put the code it builds?

Paste the generated <script type="application/ld+json"> block into your page's <head> (or anywhere in the <body>). On Shopify, add it to the relevant theme template; on WordPress, use a header-code plugin or your SEO plugin's schema settings. Then check the page here again.

How to check your structured data

  1. Enter a page's address — a product, article or home page — and press Check page. Or paste the page's source code if it isn't public yet.
  2. Read the result. Each schema item shows its errors (must fix) and tips (worth adding), in plain words.
  3. Fix or build. Switch to Build schema to generate correct JSON-LD — it's pre-filled from the page you checked — then copy it into your site and check again.

The mistakes we see most

  • Prices with symbols: "price": "₹2,499" is invalid — it must be a plain number like 2499.00, with the currency in priceCurrency as "INR".
  • Dates in the wrong format: use 2026-10-08, not "8 Oct 2026".
  • Relative links: images, logos and breadcrumb links must be full addresses starting with https://.
  • Broken JSON: one missing comma or an extra one before a closing bracket makes Google ignore the whole block.

Good to know: since 2023 Google shows FAQ rich results mainly for well-known government and health websites, and no longer shows HowTo results. The markup is still valid and helps search engines and AI assistants understand your page — just don't expect the expandable questions under every result.
