Frequently asked questions

Can I start numbering from 2 or skip the cover?

Yes. Tick “Don't number the first page” to leave the cover blank — numbering then starts at 1 on page 2. Change “Start counting at” to begin from any other number.

Can I number only some pages?

Yes — type the pages, for example 3-20, in “Which pages”. Leave it empty to number every page.

Will it cover text near the edge?

Increase “Distance from edge” to move the numbers further in, or choose the top of the page instead. The preview shows exactly where they'll go.

Does it change anything else in my PDF?

No. Text, links and images stay as they are — the number is simply added on top of each page.

How to add page numbers to a PDF

  1. Select or drop your PDF — the first page shows in the preview.
  2. Pick a position (bottom centre is the most common), a format such as Page 1 of 10, and the font size.
  3. To keep the cover unnumbered, tick Don't number the first page. Use Start counting at if your numbering should continue from another document.
  4. Press Add page numbers and download.

Where should page numbers go?

  • Reports and assignments: bottom centre or bottom right.
  • Legal and court documents: bottom centre, often as Page 1 of N so missing pages are obvious.
  • Books and booklets: outer corners; number the pages after the cover.

Is it private?

Numbers are added in your browser and the PDF never leaves your device.
